The Dancing Classrooms Phoenix mission is to foster self-esteem, social awareness and joy in children by providing the opportunity to learn and perform ballroom dance. We believe that through this instruction, our organization can help improve the climate of school communities across the Phoenix Valley, while building confidence in students, breaking down social barriers, and inspiring respect for all individuals. DCPhx envisions transformative arts programs in all school communities, building confidence, nurturing creativity and promoting a culture of mutual respect and well-being. We have worked with more than 200 local fifth grade students, in public, charter and parochial schools in the Phoenix area.
The program is not just about teaching dance, it’s about teaching pride, confidence and respect. We take the dance that is inherent in students’ bodies and help them to bring it out, not force it in, enabling students to increase their self-esteem as they learn. As seen in the documentary film Mad Hot Ballroom, Dancing Classrooms Phoenix is an in-school residency for every child, regardless of background or experience.
Founded in 2011, Dancing Classrooms Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization.
